Stuart Campbell

Stuart Campbell was announced as the Rowdies assistant coach on February 4, 2014.

Campbell brings a wealth of firsthand knowledge and experience to the coaching staff, having played professionally for a number of international clubs, including Leicester City, Bristol Rovers, Birmingham City, Grimsby Town and most recently the Rowdies.

Campbell joined the Rowdies in the 2012 season and quickly established himself as a team leader during the club’s 2012 NASL Soccer Bowl Championship run, starting in 26 regular season and 4 playoff matches. Throughout the 2013 season, he doubled as player and assistant coach, totaling 15 matches and 12 starts. Stuart Campbell’s experience and passion were cited as determining factors for the club’s decision to permanently add him to the coaching staff.

The Scottish midfielder began his professional playing career at Leicester City where he remained from 1996-2000. Campbell went on loan with League One side Birmingham City in 2000. Campbell then signed for Grimsby Town, where he played from 2000-2004, making 117 appearances and scoring 10 goals.

Campbell was then transferred to Bristol Rovers, a club for which he enjoyed a long and successful tenure, playing 288 league matches across eight seasons from 2004-2011. Campbell was The Pirates’ captain for five years while they competed in League One, the third-highest division of The Football League. During his time at the club, Bristol Rovers were able to reach the quarterfinals of the FA Cup in 2007-08, their best showing in 50 years.
